Just this past week a friend of mine was astounded that I would have allowed a horse that was shown in the hunter ring to school over natural jumps! Gerry,We usualluy use “Takeshima” for 竹島, and “Chiku-sho” for 竹嶼. But it has same meaning “bamboo island” basically, and we usually use “竹嶼” instead 竹島 to call Jukdo as you know. “嶼” is rather used for islets, though. I think Navy and MOFA used “竹嶼” to distingish Jukdo from flying 竹島 (Argonaut or Ulleungdo) in concern.
